Description: Six months into my breastfeeding journey I'm sharing my experience, tips and all I've learned about it! Part of this video is sponsored by FABLETICS, 50% off for all new VIPs: fabletics.co.uk/melaniemurphyyt FORMULA DISCLAIMER! Formula is a miracle that has meant that many babies have lived when they might have died and I was 100% formula fed...look at me go! I want to see zero formula shaming in the comments - modern living doesn’t permit many women to work from home to breastfeed, many women literally cannot afford to work and pay for childcare too as they can't get a job that pays enough to justify the cost. Some women can't, maybe baby won't latch or maybe the type of birth a woman ends up having means her milk doesn't come in. Some choose not to because it isn't for them, others choose not to because they don't know enough about their options/don't feel comfortable about breastfeeding/all kinds of reasons! And most women aren’t supported from the get-go…emotionally, via proper education in the hospital, financially by governments. Ireland has one of the lowest breastfeeding rates in the world and MUCH more needs to be done to support women in their goals because breastfeeding is one of the key public-health interventions that we can actually do - as a lot of our immune function is shaped in HUGE ways by breastfeeding, it has lifelong influences on how the body functions and I’m all about preventative healthcare. All I feel I can do to help is to champion it online and so, that’s what I’m here to do! Don't feel ashamed if you bottle fed, nobody is shaming you by talking about an alternative. Women on both ends sure are often shamed (breastfeeding women for feeding in public etc, bottle feeders for simply bottle feeding) but there's no shaming here whatsoever. The comments here must be a safe space for all to share experiences. According to the WHO, breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and that's why I'm so passionate about it. It contains all the vitamins, nutrients and hydration that a baby needs in the first six months of life - ideal amount of protein, fat and carbs, good bacteria, enzymes. There’s a lot to breastfeeding that I had no idea about…it’s food yes, but it’s also medicine - it’s full of antibodies, the mother’s body can quite literally produces antibodies specific to the baby's infection! So like, the body is literally able to write a prescription for a baby’s illness without a diagnosis…The nutritional and immunological components of breast milk change every day, according to the individual needs of each specific baby. Mind blowing. Like, during the day milk will provide more cortisol and in the early evening it’ll start to provide more melatonin to help your baby regulate their days and nights! In this video I talk through all this and lots more including my whole breastfeeding story from the get-go, challenges, pros and cons of breastfeeding...she's a long one!
